Emmett knows who rules THIS household

Hi All - Emmett has now been with me 2 weeks, and knows exactly who
rules the household (he does!) Tuesday, when I was 3 hours late getting
home (doctor appointment and such fun at the pharmacy) he leaped out of
the cage right onto my chest and didn't want to go to bed for quit
awhile.

He's learned how to make clucking sounds, and kissing sounds. He clicks
his beak like a metal clicker, and dances just like Stevie Wonder. He
adores broccoli and pears and despises kidney beans. Carrots are
acceptable - it's like he knows when that's all he's going to get and
has way too much fun shredding them.

Dinner is interesting - he thinks I should hand feed it to him. I love
him, but feeding himself is something I KNOW he can do :-) Tonight he
thought I was holding out on him and put his whole head into my mouth
looking for something to munch on. I'm so glad he didn't decide to bite
down!

He sits on his play center next to the computer, and when he's decided
he's had enough time on his own he walks down, then over to my left arm,
then right up my arm to my shoulder.

Last Sunday we went for a car ride and he's decided that's the life! He
sat perched on my right shoulder watching everything. I'm glad he likes
the car so much, as this weekend I'm going to San Diego (of course he's
going along!)

I dug out one of my old (large) lovebird cages and I'm going to set it
up at my friends house so he has his own "southern villa". Is this bird
spoiled? Naw, never! :-)

Thanx for reading this long post, and have a great weekend!

I'm glad you didn't sneeze. :)

Hi Carol,
When you have Emmett in the car with you, please please keep him in a
carrier, not on your shoulder. If anything startles him, you will be trying
to maintain control of your car with a freaked out bird flapping around. You
could both be killed. Even in a minor accident, he could injured by getting
thrown around the car, or be so frightened out that he could injure you or
get away from you.

You can use a cat carrier, but that blocks his view. I use a Wingabago, and
many people use a small travelling cage. If you have a passenger side
airbag, the carrier should be in the backseat. Birds love to travel if you
let them see what's going on, let a bit of wind in their faces if the
weather permits, and sing silly songs the whole way.

I would love to get a Senegal, but right now I'm pretty busy with my baby
Timneh. Some day...
